1.Auli, Uttarakhand

With snow-draped peaks on every side and tranquility abound, Auli is the ultimate winter destination. The major draw is of course the wealth of skiing resorts. You can also go trekking to the snow meadow – Gurson Bugyal or pristine Himalayas at Kwani Bugyal; visit the Auli artificial lake; ride Asia’s longest cable car, and enjoy the 360 degree view of the snow-covered peaks of the Himalayas –Nanda Devi, Hathi Parvat, Kamet, Trishul and Mana Parvat. And if skiing is your cup of tea, there’s always the National Championship of Skiing, which takes place in January in Auli. 


How to reach Auli by Air-

The Jolly Grant Airport located in Dehradun is the nearest airport to Auli. It is at a distance of around 279 km from the hill station. It connects the place with several cities of the country.

How to reach Auli by Rail-

Haridwar railway station is the nearest railhead situated at a distance of 273 km and numerous trains run from here on a regular basis connecting all the major towns and cities of India. From the railway station, taxis and buses are available which can be availed for reaching Auli at an economical cost.

How to reach Auli by Road-

Joshimath is the nearest town to Auli and is situated at a distance of 16 kms. UPRSTC buses are operated from this town frequently to the nearby places including Rishikesh (250 km), Haridwar (273 km) and Dehradun (293 km). There are good services of Buses and Cabs available.

2.Shimla, Himachal Pradesh

While you’re in the region, definitely explore Narkanda, which is just a two hours drive away from Shimla. The surrounding snow-laden peaks and the winter sun come together to make it a winter wonderland. Skiing and hiking up the Shivalik ranges and apple orchards among the favourite activities here.

How to reach Shimla by Air-

Located at a distance of 22 km away from the Shimla, the Jubbarhatti airport is well connected to various other cities by air. The other nearby airports such as Chandigarh Airport and Delhi airport can be accessed easily.

How to reach Shimla by Rail-

The nearest station is Kalka which connects the city with different parts of the country by rail line. There are quite a good number of trains from the cities like Delhi and Calcutta. From Kalka station, one can take the pleasure of toy train as well as can hire private cabs to explore the beauty of this city.

How to reach Shimla by Road-

Shimla is well connected with the cities like Chandigarh, Delhi, Dehradun and Kalka though roadways. You can hire taxis as well as state buses to reach the hill station from these cities. There are even regular bus services from the nearby places to Shimla such as Kullu (235 km), Manali (280 km), Delhi (370 km) and Ambala (154 km). From the capital of India, one can even take luxury buses and cabs which will provide a comfortable journey.

3.Great Rann of Kutch, Gujarat

Every winter lakhs of visitors descend on the world’s biggest salt desert – Rann of Kutch stretching 7,505 square miles in the Thar Desert to witness the white expanse of the serene salt sand under the full moon night – a magical sight, indeed! Rann of Kutch takes pride in its Kutch festival, known as ‘Rann Utsav’ that is held in the winter (November-February). From traditional cuisine, shopping, folk dances and cultural performances to art, handicrafts, star gazing, desert safari and several other activities, this festival packs a ton of treasures for everyone. Also, staying in the tents on the periphery of the Dhordo village adds to the fascinating experience.

How to reach Kutch by Air-

The nearest airport to Kutch is in the city of Bhuj, which is around 80 km from the Rann desert. Bhuj airport is well connected to cities all over India. Flights run from and to Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata etc.

How to reach Kutch by road-

This is the only actual option to reach Kutch. You can take your own vehicle or hire a cab from Bhuj to reach Kutch. Consequently, you can also travel with your own vehicle from Ahmedabad (400 km away) or Rajkot (300km away) to reach Kutch directly.

How to reach Kutch by train-

As mentioned, the city does not have a dedicated railway station of its own. However, the Bhuj city has a railway station with trains coming from many major cities like Mumbai, Ahmedabad etc. You will have to arrange a vehicle or take a cab to reach Kutch from Bhuj.

Local transport in Kutch-

You can take the buses and autos to explore the region and the villages around. There is also the option of hiring a cab.
